Beauty & the Beast props at the El Capitan Theatre

Beauty & the Beast update!

I’ve just returned from a last minute holiday to the USA and made a very exciting discovery…

We popped out to get some food for the apartment and decided to stop by the Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre etc… I’d heard that some of our Beauty & the Beast props were on display at the El Capitan Theatre, so we thought we’d check it out… Definitely didn’t expect to see all of our team’s original music boxes!  What a treat that was!!! :O

(Unfortunately I only had my iPhone with me so the snaps aren’t great quality)

There they were, all of the original boxes we’d made sitting in beautifully lit display cases alongside some of the costumes and physical props of some of the characters. The soundtrack from the film was playing, and as it was the middle of the day and a showing of the film was in progress, we had the museum room all to ourselves. (A huge thank you to the lovely management and staff at the theatre for being so kind)

Note to self – do hair and makeup before you pop out to the shops to get food and accidentally get distracted by the Walk of Fame and the El Capitan featuring our Beauty & the Beast movie props

I was mostly sculpting the little figurines for these boxes along with one of the box bases, and did some minor decorative work on the other boxes.

Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer led the direction on these, through the concept art from the Art Dept to the final finishes from the painters.

It was such a thrill to see them on the big screen (with nice close ups of the inside of the windmill one!) but it was fantastic to see the others which weren’t as featured in the movie on display in real life.

Again, I truly had such an incredible time working on these (amongst other things, which i’ll go into in another post) with some ridiculously talented people – Go team Maurice!

Some more Beauty & the Beast movie props at the El Capitan Theatre – I did some minor decorative work on these (and the figures and eagle bit on the far right) but the majority of these ones were created by the rest of the team

I sculpted the miniature dancer figurines for this one. The incredibly beautiful base was sculpted by Marc and the clever mechanics were down to Dave.

I only sculpted the little guy on this one – the rest of this box was sculpted by Dave and Marc. Beauty & the Beast movie props at the El Capitan Theatre

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, I urge you to at once – I may be biased, but even so it truly is an amazing film 🙂

I saw the film last night and loved it. The windmill was exquisite, and its family scene was very touching. Thanks so much for sharing these photos!

I saw the movie and admire your work, is there anyway to produce a replica of the music box?

Thanks Frank! Unfortunately not from me – you’d have to ask Disney (i’d love a replica of it too! haha)
